Using ShellVoice

ShellVoice is provided free of charge for personal and professional use. You may install it on any Mac you control. You are responsible for what you dictate, what you ask it to speak, and for the commands you connect to its command-line tool.

Local processing and third-party services

By default ShellVoice processes everything on your machine. If you configure the optional cloud transcription provider, your use of that service is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy, and any costs it charges are yours.

Open-source components

ShellVoice is built on open-source software, including whisper.cpp and the Whisper models (MIT), Piper and its voices (MIT), Tauri and the Rust and JavaScript libraries it depends on. Their licences apply to those components.

No warranty

ShellVoice is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Speech recognition makes mistakes; review transcripts before relying on them, especially where accuracy matters. To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShellVoice's authors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the software or this website.

Permissions you grant

The app requests macOS Microphone and Accessibility permissions to do its job. Granting Accessibility lets ShellVoice type into other apps on your behalf; you can revoke either permission at any time in System Settings.

The content of shellvoice.dev, including the screenshots and the ShellVoice name and mark, may not be used to misrepresent the product or its source. Linking to the site is welcome.

Changes

These terms may be updated as ShellVoice evolves. The changelog will note when they change.
